Hi, I'm Víctor
Santana Estévanez

Photographer and filmmaker based in Gran Canaria, though the work takes me wherever it's needed.

I started out photographing the island's landscape, as a way to switch off from the everyday. It stopped being a hobby the day I watched Dune: Greig Fraser's cinematography left me itching to make a living from this. I had already spent six years behind the camera when my life took a sharp turn and I decided that, if everything can change overnight, I'd rather spend my time on what I actually want to do.

I come from marine science: a degree, two master's degrees and four years of doctoral research. What stayed with me is the habit of observing patiently and of preparing things before they happen. The rest comes from film (my father is a devoted cinephile and I grew up watching films with him), from reading a lot of fantasy and historical fiction, and from video games. All of that is in the way I frame a shot.

I'm interested in the whole process: preparing, shooting and editing. Live music is what pulls me most. I work alone and closely with each client, because the result is always better when there's trust on both sides of the camera. What I hear most is that I catch the exact moment at a concert, and that the way I shoot video tells things a photograph can't.

Services

01

Live music

Concerts, festivals and venues. Coverage with a cinematic eye, available day and night.

02

Brands and product

Product, brand and team photography and video for businesses that want to convey quality at first glance. Continuous lighting when the job calls for it.

03

Events

Talks, meet-ups, company events and celebrations. Full coverage, without interrupting the moment.

Every job is quoted on its own: a night event isn't the same as a morning in a shop, and neither is it with video or without.

How I work

01

We talk first

I like to know you before the day itself: what you need, where it is and what you want to walk away with. That way, when the moment comes, nobody feels awkward in front of the camera.

02

I arrive early

I show up well ahead of time to see the place and read the light. On brand work I set up continuous lighting to control it; at events I work with natural light and only reach for the flash when it is strictly necessary.

03

The camera stays up

I don't stop during the job. I'd rather come back with far more material than I'll use than miss the moment that matters.

04

Delivery in 7-10 days

You get everything in a private gallery, ready to view, download and share. Video comes in horizontal and vertical for social media.

A real professional, and good work. He's always there half an hour or an hour before, and half an hour or an hour after, always around in case he's needed. And I really like the material he produces.
